Last night, I spent a few hours playing World of Warcraft with my wife. Itās an old game, so it has a lot of things to do and content to experience.
Still, we spent a lot of time just sitting around Orgrimmar, chatting with other players. We play on a Roleplaying server, which means that in some specific spots of the world, people actually do the roleplaying part of a roleplaying game.
And itās so fun! While not as flashy as the big combat encounters and epic story bits, it feels like these little social interactions while pretending to be your character are way more fun and personal.
In the 20 years since the gameās release, the social aspects of this social game have been reduced considerably, and you can pretty much do everything without having to talk to a single soul in the game.
That makes sense if you consider the game's audience has grown up and doesnāt have a lot of time to play and interact, and/or our increasingly shorter attention spans canāt handle spending hours looking for people to do something with us.
Still, Iām glad thereās still opportunity for players that want to dive into the game a bit more to do that and find each other. Iām a huge lore nerd and love any opportunity to feel like Iām a part of that world. Thanks to Braldov, the Tauren, and Moralus, the Zandalari, for a fun night!
